Self Awareness
Julia has had a long-standing interest in self-awareness stemming from when she was designing and running assessment and development centres. During her training to become a coach she realised that working on her own self-awareness was what was enhancing her effectiveness, this led to a journey in self-development and study, resulting in PhD research exploring the role if self-awareness in the development of the coach.
Self Awareness
Self-Awareness is something that many of us talk about, yet do we really know what it is? Read more here:
Although Julia’s research explored the role of self-awareness in the development of the coach, the research is relevant to leadership and leadership development. Working on our own self-awareness enables us to develop self-connection, without which we are unable to develop human connection and lead others effectively. Daniel Goleman highlighted the importance of self-awareness in being emotionally intelligent; and Jim Collins in his work looking at ‘good to great leaders’ highlighted the relevance of self-awareness in ‘great’ leaders. Julia’s research takes this a step further in clarifying exactly what self-awareness is and has identified that actually we are unable to connect with (and lead) others without working on and developing our own self-awareness, then self-connection.
